Bank of America’s Bid to Dismiss Credit Race Bias Suit Denied

An Iranian immigrant’s suit claiming that Bank of America NA discriminated against him in violation of federal law when it canceled his credit card may proceed, a federal court in California said.

Mohammad Nia’s complaint sufficiently stated a claim under the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, Judge Cynthia A. Bashant of the US District Court for the Southern District of California said Wednesday.

Nia is a citizen of Iran and a permanent resident of the US. Because Iran is under US sanctions, the bank periodically required Nia to prove his residency in order to maintain his credit card. For years, the ...
