Democrats are mulling more votes on abortion rights and women’s health bills this year to keep the issue at the forefront of voters’ minds, lawmakers said this week.
There aren’t 60 votes in the Senate to enshrine a broad right to abortion access into law, despite Democrats’ plans to hold a vote on Wednesday on a measure to establish a federal right to an abortion (S. 4132). But that doesn’t mean party leaders are giving up ahead of the November elections that will determine control of both chambers of Congress.
