Energy Department to Use $20 Billion for Clean Tech Expansion

The Department of Energy is expanding its role in clean energy research efforts with $20 billion for an new office that will promote clean hydrogen, carbon capture, energy storage, small modular nuclear reactors, and other technologies.

The Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations was created with part of the $1 trillion infrastructure bill approved by Congress in November. Federally funded projects could show large-scale effectiveness of clean technology, representing a “new chapter” in the energy department’s research mission, it said.
