Flexsteel Cleared for $1.3 Million Settlement Over Covid Layoffs

Iowa-based furniture maker Flexsteel Industries Inc. can pay $1.275 million to resolve a lawsuit by employees who say they were laid off early in the Covid-19 pandemic without proper notice or severance, according to a federal court ruling.

The deal is expected to benefit about 300 former employees at Flexsteel’s manufacturing centers in Dubuque, Iowa, and Starkville, Miss. It resolves allegations that Flexsteel permanently closed these facilities and laid off all associated workers without providing the termination notices required by the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act or paying severance benefits under its Employee Retirement Income Security Act benefits plan. ...
